Valadao bill reauthorizes federal funds for rural healthcare initiatives

Bipartisan legislation led by U.S. Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) on May 14 would reauthorize the federal telehealth network and telehealth resource centers grant programs at $42.05 million for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2030.

Rep. Valadao sponsored the Telehealth Network and Telehealth Resource Centers Grant Program Reauthorization Act, H.R. 3419, alongside lead original cosponsor U.S. Rep. Adam Gray (D-CA) to help provide investment in America’s rural health care.

“In the Central Valley and rural communities across the country, telehealth isn’t just a convenience — it’s a lifeline,” Rep. Valadao said. “With too few doctors, long wait times, and clinics often hours away, families are still struggling to get the care they need.”

“This bipartisan bill gives Valley families the flexibility and tools required to better connect with providers,” he added, “and I’m proud to join Congressman Gray in strengthening rural health care for the long haul.”

Originally enacted in 1944, the Public Health Service Act provides the foundation for the nation’s public health programs and workforce. Over the years, it has been a critical tool in addressing America’s evolving healthcare needs — particularly in rural and underserved communities where access to quality care remains a challenge, according to information provided by Rep. Valadao’s staff.

Reauthorizing the telehealth network and telehealth resource grant programs would ensure continued investment in initiatives that recruit and retain health professionals in rural communities, strengthen rural hospitals and clinics, and close the geographic gaps in receiving quality care, the information says.

“While our community experiences one of the worst physician shortages in the country, we need to make it easier to get care — not harder,” Rep. Gray said. “This bipartisan, common-sense bill to reauthorize telehealth networks and resource grants will allow families to access care no matter where they live.”

H.R. 3419 has been referred to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee for consideration.
