U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) and U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) on Feb. 12 introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution that would recognize February 2026 as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month.
“Career and Technical Education helps strengthen our workforce and prepares students for employment in a wide range of exciting positions,” said Rep. Thompson, co-chair of the House Career and Technical Education Caucus. “I am proud to lead this bipartisan resolution to celebrate the role CTE plays in our country and the countless contributions made by CTE professionals and educators.”
Rep. Thompson sponsored House Resolution (H.Res.) 1063 alongside 33 original cosponsors, including U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), while Sen. Young cosponsored the identical resolution in the Senate with sponsor U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and more than 40 other fellow cosponsors.
“This resolution recognizes the importance of Career and Technical Education and encourages more educators and students to seek out CTE programs,” Sen. Young said. “Preparing the students of today for the jobs of tomorrow will lead to more opportunities, a stronger economy, and a highly skilled workforce.”
According to the lawmakers, nearly 12 million students in the United States are enrolled in CTE programs, which prepare them for careers in various industries, such as agriculture, health care, manufacturing, construction, and others.
If enacted, the resolution would recognize the importance of CTE and help promote programs across the country.
“CTE provides critical opportunities for students to prosper academically and learn marketable skills,” Rep. Bonamici said. “Investments in CTE support domestic manufacturing and infrastructure, laying a strong foundation for the country’s future.”
The resolution is supported by Advance CTE and the Association for Career and Technical Education.
Among the members who also signed on as cosponsors of H.Res. 1063 are U.S. Reps. Bryan Steil (R-WI), Sam Graves (R-MO), Don Bacon (R-NE), Lloyd Smucker (R-PA), Mike Bost (R-IL), Rudy Yakym (R-IN), and Adrian Smith (R-NE).
Joining Sen. Young to cosponsor the Senate resolution are U.S. Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Hoeven (R-ND), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
