Task Force on Reducing Regulatory Burdens releases mission statement ahead of first forum

The Task Force on Reducing Regulatory Burdens released a mission statement on Tuesday ahead of the group’s first idea forum.

U.S. Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI), the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Lamar Smith (R-TX), the chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, and Bill Shuster (R-PA), the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, are among the task force’s nine members.

According to a mission statement released by the task force on Tuesday, the task force’s goals are to “Make it easier to invest, produce and build in America with a modern and transparent regulatory system that relieves the burden on small businesses and other job creators and encourages financial independence, while balancing environmental stewardship, public safety and consumer interests.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) announced the formation of the Task Force on Reducing Regulatory Burdens in January. The group will work to develop a pro-growth agenda in terms of national security, jobs and economic growth, health care, poverty and opportunity, and constitutional authority.

“This is nothing short of a generational defining moment,” Ryan said in January. “We do not like the direction the country is going, and we have an obligation to offer an alternative. Starting today, we will begin developing a bold, pro-growth agenda to take to the country. By giving the people a clear choice in 2016, we can earn a mandate to do big things in 2017 and beyond. We want a confident America. Now it’s time to get to work.”
