Reed brings New York manufacturers together for manufacturing summit

U.S. Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) recently brought manufacturers across New York together for a manufacturing summit to explore available resources and ideas to promote economic development within the industry.

The manufacturing summit, held at Corning-Painted Post High School in Painted Post, New York, featured panelists from Dream It Do It Western New York, Buffalo Manufacturing Works, Cornell University and the American Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) Photonics Institute.

“We care about helping U.S. manufacturing succeed because it means good jobs for people right here at home,” Reed said. “This summit gave local manufacturers an opportunity to learn about what programs are available to them and share ideas so they can grow and create the jobs that our workforce deserves.”

Michael Liehr, the president of AIM Photonics, said that the summit was “a wonderful opportunity” to discuss exciting work that is currently being done and learn about additional economic development opportunities in the region.

Thomas Tranter, Jr., the president of Corning Enterprises and the co-chairman of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council, said that Corning remains committed to providing high-quality manufacturing jobs in the United States.

“We appreciate the support we receive from Congressman Reed and all our government representatives at the local, state and national level to assure that these jobs will continue,” Tranter said.

Reed, the co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus and a sponsor of the bipartisan Revitalizing American Manufacturing and Innovation (RAMI) Act, H.R.2996, has made job creation in New York his top priority.
