Moran highlights $79M in federal funding as major win for rural Kansas hospitals

Sen. Jerry Moran

Dozens of rural Kansas hospitals and healthcare providers are recipients of more than $79 million in federal grants that U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) helped secure for his home state.

Specifically, 39 providers and hospitals will receive $79.1 million in the first round of federal grants through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program, which is administered by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

“Today marks a major milestone for the future of rural health care in Kansas,” Sen. Moran said on May 29. “These resources will allow hospitals and providers in small towns across Kansas to purchase modernized technology, invest in new capabilities, and expand care for surrounding communities.”

In 2025, Sen. Moran helped establish the RHT Program in the enacted One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The program was created to help identify the root challenges facing rural health providers and invest in solutions to improve outcomes for struggling providers, according to Sen. Moran’s staff.

Kansas will receive $222 million in the program’s first year, making it the sixth-highest recipient. Over the next five years, Kansas providers are estimated to receive roughly $1 billion from the RHT Program.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Kansas healthcare providers and state leaders to find solutions that strengthen and improve the future of rural health care in our state,” added the senator.
