U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), a pharmacist by trade, on Oct. 14 sponsored a resolution that would recognize October 2025 as American Pharmacists Month.
“The work that pharmacists do is vital to the health of not only our patients and communities, but also our entire system of care,” Rep. Carter said. “It is crucial that we give them the support and recognition they deserve, and this resolution is a step toward fulfilling that duty. Thank you to the honorable men and women who choose to work in this profession and put others before themselves.”
The congressman introduced House Resolution (H.Res.) 805 alongside lead original cosponsor U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) to recognize October as American Pharmacists Month in honor of the contribution of pharmacists to provide safe, accessible, affordable, and beneficial patient care services and products to all residents and to protect the public health of communities, according to the text.
If enacted, H.Res. 805 would resolve that the U.S. House of Representatives would pledge to celebrate contributions of pharmacists to the health and well-being of all people in each state; recognize pharmacists as one of the most accessible healthcare providers delivering critical services to patients and contributing to the health and well-being of all people; and commit to working collaboratively with pharmacists and other healthcare providers to help patients overcome illness and live healthier lives through chronic disease management and the full, effective use of their medicines, the text says.
The resolution is supported by several individual pharmacists and pharmacy owners, as well as the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the National Community Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
