House subcommittee advances bills concerning health care, menu labels

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Heath advanced seven bills on Wednesday concerning mental health, menu labeling, Medicaid reforms, Social Security and pharmaceutical regulations.

The following bills now go to the full committee: Medical Controlled Substances Transportation Act, Synthetic Drug Control Act, Ensuring Terminated Providers Are Removed from Medicaid and CHIP Act, Medicaid Directory of Caregivers Act, Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act, Helping Families in Mental Health Care Crisis Act and a bill to amend Title XIX of the Social Security Act concerning electronic-visit verification.

“In approving these seven important bills, we took a big step today in implementing meaningful reforms for the American public,” Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) said. “From addressing the growing prevalence of synthetic drugs, restoring common sense to menu labeling, and to improving our country;s mental health system, these bills will make a real difference in the lives of countless Americans.”
