Oak Orchard Health facility given $858,333 HRSA grant

U.S. Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) said on Tuesday that Oak Orchard Health, which lies within his district, has been awarded an $858,333 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The funds will help support the new long-term vision for health care in the Hornell area.

Oak Orchard
Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves the Hornell
region, providing patient-centered primary and pediatric care.

“This (grant award) is great news for residents in the Hornell region,” Reed said. “I care deeply about protecting access to health care and ensuring that local residents have the resources and services they need. That is why we have worked tirelessly to support plans and secure funding for new access points here in the Southern Tier.”

Reed has been consistently working in Washington to preserve the existence of quality health care access in the Hornell area.

“Increasing access points to health care is critically important in our area,” Reed said. “It is only fair that local residents have access to quality primary and pediatric care close to home.”

“We are pleased that HRSA has awarded us this grant so that we can best serve the health care needs (of residents) in Hornell,” Jim Cummings, CEO of Oak Orchard Health, said. “We appreciate all the efforts of Congressman Reed and his staff, who supported our application to HRSA.”

Oak Orchard Health is playing a critical role in the plans to restructure nearby St. James Mercy Hospital.

Reed was first elected to represent the 29th District of New York in a special election in November 2010 and took office during the “lame duck” session of the 111th Congress. He began his own full two-year term in the 112th Congress in January 2011 and was re-elected in November 2012 to represent the new 23rd District.
