The Maine Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of
Southern Maine (USM) has been awarded $100,000 from the Economic Development
Administration (EDA), U.S. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (D-ME) said on Tuesday.
“The Maine Center for Business and Economic Research works to strengthen existing regional economic development initiatives and stimulate economic opportunity in the state of Maine,” the Senators said in a joint statement. “This funding will provide an important catalyst for innovation, and build upon ongoing economic development efforts at the University of Southern Maine to support Maine’s private and public sector organizations.”
The grant will fund the final year of a five-year Economic Development Program at the university, which provides technical assistance, along with research and development tools for the purposes of spurring innovation and economic growth throughout the state of Maine.
The EDA’s University Center program partners with academic institutions in a competitive environment, providing regional economic development initiatives access to valuable university resources and technical expertise.
The Maine Center for Business and Economic Research is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Commerce EDA Technical Assistance Project and the Muskie School of Public Service at the USM.
