The House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, chaired by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), will have a hearing concerning the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed Clean Power Plan at 10 a.m. Sept. 9.
The Clean Power Plan calls for states to submit their energy plans to the EPA to ensure the individual or regional plans are conforming to the mandatory carbon dioxide emissions set by the agency. State regulators are scheduled to testify during the hearing, and state officials will have the opportunity to speak out on the possible regulation and any implementation problems at the hearing.
Whitfield wanted the hearing in order to get questions answered.
“Neither EPA nor (the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) was able to adequately explain how this sweeping takeover of our electricity sector will work or what the consequences will be for consumers and our economy,” Whitfield said. “The burden of implementing this plan will fall to the states, which are being asked to completely redesign their electricity systems. States will no longer be able to choose what the best electricity mix is to meet their own needs, and all energy-planning decisions will be subject to a federal veto.”
The meeting will be held in the Rayburn House Office Building.
