To highlight trailer hauling safety, U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN) on Monday sponsored a bipartisan resolution that would recognize National Trailer Safety Week on June 7 through 13.
“I came to Congress to fight every day for manufacturing jobs, the backbone of Indiana’s Second District. And to protect those jobs, we must first protect the hard-working Hoosiers doing them,” Rep. Yakym said. “That starts with making sure every American who hitches up a trailer, whether it’s a towable RV, a cargo trailer, or a flatbed hauling equipment, knows how to do it safely.”
The congressman introduced House Resolution (H.Res.) 1344 alongside four original cosponsors, including U.S. Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA).
National Trailer Safety Week would encourage and support the goals and ideals of trailer safety and promote education around the importance of proper towing techniques and maintenance.
The aim for increased education on trailer safety is to further reduce injuries and fatalities on the road, according to the text of the resolution, which notes that national trailer growth remains high, with 950,000 new light- and medium-duty trailers registered in 2025.
“Trailer accidents claim hundreds of lives and leave 21,000 Americans injured every year — an unacceptable toll on American families and communities,” said Rep. Garamendi. “I’m proud to stand with my colleagues in introducing this resolution to elevate public awareness of trailer safety standards and strengthen the safety of our nation’s roadways.”
The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers supports H.Res. 1344, which has been referred for consideration to the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
