Tiberi: Jobs report shows need for pro-growth policies

U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) responded on Friday to the release of the November jobs report, warning that American families still aren’t seeing the benefits of the Obama recovery.

“Labor force participation remains low and underemployment actually increased,” Tiberi said. “Americans deserve better. That’s why I will continue to work toward passing meaningful, pro-growth policies that will encourage job creation like modernizing our tax code to make it fairer, flatter, and more stable and passing strong trade agreements to help small businesses export American-made products.”

According to the report, released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy added 211,000 non-farm jobs, including 197,000 in the private sector, in November, while the unemployment rate remained essentially unchanged at five percent.

Revisions for the October and September numbers raised overall job gains, with October’s 271,000 jobs upgraded to 298,000 and September rising from 137,000 jobs to 145,000.

The report also found that the civilian labor force participation is 62.5 percent, while the number of people underemployed increased by 319,000 to 6.1 million workers. The underemployed are considered those in the work force who are part-time who would prefer to be full-time.

Additionally, according to the report, the number of long-term unemployed workers as a percent of the jobless is 25.7 percent.
