Snyder signs bill streamlining continuing education requirement tracking for state licensure

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation into law on Tuesday that will make it easier for residents to track the continuing education requirements of state licenses online.

The new law authorizes partnerships between the state and companies that will provide electronic record keeping of professional requirements.

“This is a great example of efforts to put people’s needs first by making government more customer-friendly,” Snyder said. “Allowing the department to partner with companies to provide licensees online tracking will eliminate hassles for Michiganders, while speeding up the process.”

Online access to continuing education requirements will streamline the process for providing proof of compliance and will provide the real-time status of outstanding requirements.

Snyder also signed a bill into law that creates an online reporting system for health professionals, social workers, school officials and others to report child abuse and neglect to state agencies.

Additional bills signed into law by Snyder on Tuesday allow for the regular review of trial court and court appeal judges, as well as updated regulations for breathalyzer ignition interlock devices to make it easier for the secretary of state to oversee the use and installation of such devices.
