Hoeven, colleagues disapprove of rule that’s harmful to firearms industry

U.S. Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) joined more than 30 Republican lawmakers in introducing a Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution of Disapproval of the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) interim final rule, which they say restricts Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

The BIS rule would rigorously regulate the ability of firearm and ammunition manufacturers to obtain licenses to export their products for sale.

“Yet again, we see another attempt by the Biden administration to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens,” Sen. Hoeven said. “This rule would harm American businesses supporting the firearm and ammunition industry as well as the jobs they provide.”

Senate Joint Resolution 93, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) on June 5, is under consideration in the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.

“This politically motivated effort unlawfully circumvents the legislative process and destroys American exports, jobs, and small businesses that support the firearm and ammunition industry,” Sen. Hagerty said.

Additional cosponsors of the resolution include U.S. Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Steve Daines (R-MT), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
