Granger applauds HUD’s $35M revitalization grant to Fort Worth community project

U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) recently announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will award $35 million to a home-state revitalization project in Fort Worth.

“While Fort Worth’s local economy has boomed in recent years, some areas have been unable to participate in our community’s strong growth,” said Rep. Granger, ranking member on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

The Fort Worth Housing Solutions’ Cavile Place Project will receive the HUD grant through the department’s Choice Neighborhoods Initiative, which helps local leaders implement plans to restore blighted or transitional neighborhoods, according to the congresswoman’s office.

HUD on April 23 said it approved four Choice Neighborhoods grants totaling $130 million, with the other three awards going to projects in Los Angeles; Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Philadelphia.

Rep. Granger said the Fort Worth funding “will support the city’s efforts to revitalize the historic Stop Six neighborhood and replace the area’s distressed housing with high-quality homes.”

The Stop Six neighborhood, she added, is a once-prosperous neighborhood named after its location on a former railway.

“I’m happy to see that Fort Worth Housing Solutions will be receiving $35 million towards this project,” said Rep. Granger. “I strongly support this community-driven plan to help build a safer, more prosperous Stop Six.”

Last year, the congresswoman said she met with Fort Worth Housing Solutions to discuss the project, and in September 2019 personally advocated for the project to HUD Secretary Ben Carson.

“As the former Mayor of Fort Worth, I know first-hand how community revitalization can improve residents’ employment, health and education,” Rep. Granger said. “I will continue working with my congressional colleagues and local leaders to ensure that Washington continues to serve residents of our district’s transitioning and lower-income areas.”
