Ernst leads 51 senators in condemning attacks against Israel

On the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel that killed dozens of Americans, U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) led a bipartisan resolution alongside all of her Senate Republican colleagues condemning Hamas terrorism.

“Now that President Trump has restored American leadership on the world stage, I have renewed optimism and will continue to support his peace through strength vision so another Oct. 7 never happens,” said Sen. Ernst, who sponsored Senate Resolution (S.Res.) 438 with lead original cosponsor U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and 50 GOP members.

In their resolution, the senators condemn Iran-backed Hamas’ use of rape as a weapon of war, oppose the rise in antisemitic protests, support the forever survival of Israel, and call for the safe release of all the hostages, including the last two American hostages Omer Neutra and Itay Chen, according to the text.

“Two years ago today, I awoke in the Middle East to horrific news — Israel was under attack by Iran-backed Hamas and Americans had been killed and taken hostage,” said Sen. Ernst. “I immediately traveled into Israel to stand with our ally against Iran-backed terror.

“Since then,” she added, “I traveled to the region seven times and met with our Middle East partners to bring our hostages home and end the war.”

Among cosponsors of the resolution are U.S. Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), John Curtis (R-UT), Steve Daines (R-MT), Deb Fischer (R-NE), John Hoeven (R-ND), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Todd Young (R-IN).

The resolution is under consideration by the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
