Costello, Hill head up bipartisan congressional workforce caucuses

Ryan Costello

U.S. Reps. Ryan Costello (R-PA) and French Hill (R-AR) both recently announced their leadership of bipartisan workforce training caucuses that will focus on advancing and integrating policies that forge a skilled workforce.

Hill will again co-chair the Congressional Skilled American Workforce Caucus and Costello has reestablished the 21st Century Skills Caucus (21CS).

Hill, who also co-chaired the Congressional Skilled American Workforce Caucus with U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-MI) in the 114th Congress, hosted roundtable discussions in Arkansas and Michigan to get input from local stakeholders about federal participation in skilled workforce policy.

“I am excited to build off the good bipartisan work that Congresswoman Lawrence and I did together in the previous Congress on skilled workforce issues,” Hill said. “Finding ways to get more of our colleagues involved will be a critical mission of the caucus this year. As Congress focuses on good policies to increase economic growth, I am optimistic that the work of our caucus will play an important role in getting people back to work.”

Meanwhile, Costello and U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) announced on Thursday that they would reestablish the 21CS Caucus for the 115th Congress to find ways to best integrate 21st century workforce skills into the K-12 education system.

The caucus will aim to form partnerships with leaders in education, business and government to tackle how to best teach the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the global economy.

“The 21st century workforce is a dynamic environment full of opportunity, but in order for these opportunities to be realized, our workforce must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful in a competitive job market,” Costello said. “Through the 21CS Caucus, Congress has the opportunity to support our local schools in their efforts to equip students with critical employability skills from an early age, and I look forward to collaborating with Congressman Loebsack and my colleagues on this effort again this Congress.”
