Bishop, Walorski kick off Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Prevention Month with panel discussion

U.S. Reps. Mike Bishop (R-MI) and Jackie Walorski (R-IN) led a panel discussion on child abuse and sexual assault prevention on Wednesday in Michigan.

Local law enforcement officials and representatives of the LACASE Center, a nonprofit that advocates for and serves survivors of child abuse, domestic abuse and sexual assault, joined Bishop and Walorski in the panel discussion.

“Across the country and right here in Livingston County, we’re facing a very real problem with child abuse and domestic violence – and all of us have a duty to step in and do something about it,” Bishop said. “Everyone can play a role in putting an end to these despicable crimes, and I will not stop fighting until that happens. I appreciate Congresswoman Walorski for coming to Michigan to share her insights and joining the effort to keep our kids and families safe.”

Walorski has spearheaded a number of legislative efforts to help prevent sexual assault and to assist survivors during her time in Congress, as well as coauthoring a bipartisan bill to curb military sexual assault and supporting the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.

“In the United States, four to five children die each day as a result of abuse and neglect and it’s our responsibility to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves,” Walorski said. “I thank Rep. Bishop for raising awareness to continue the fight to end child abuse once and for all.”
