U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) announced last week that he will lead the Ways and Means Committee’s Tax Policy Subcommittee.
“Our tax code is out of date and out of touch with our American values,” Boustany said. “Its structure favors some over others and its complexity constitutes a heavy burden on the small businesses and individuals without an army of accountants to guide them. We can do better.”
The subcommittee, formerly known as the Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee, holds jurisdiction over all revenue measures referred by the full committee chairman to the subcommittee.
“Under my leadership, the Tax Policy Subcommittee will look for ways to stop driving American businesses away from our shores, stop harming the very small businesses that are the economic engines of our recovery, and stop the gross overreach into pocketbooks of families who are struggling to put food on the table,” Boustany said. “I look forward to working with Chairman Brady to pursue a simpler, fairer, and more economically-friendly tax code to put Americans back to work.”
The change, which sees Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) filling Boustany’s former role as head of the Human Resources Committee, follows former Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul D. Ryan’s (R-WI) ascension to Speaker of the House. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) replaces Ryan as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. Brady’s subsequent empty position as head of the Health Subcommittee was filled by Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH).
