Scalise: NLRB ruling an ‘attack’ by ‘out-of-touch Washington liberals’

In the wake of the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) recent joint-employer-status decision in the Browning-Ferris case, overturning long-settled labor law and changing policy in a way that critics said could damage U.S. jobs and small businesses, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) issued a statement on Wednesday to reiterate his concerns on the issue.

“It is extremely disappointing that this administration would hand down yet another win for their political allies in Big Labor at the expense of the American worker,” Scalise said. “The Browning-Ferris decision upends decades of legal precedent and upsets the joint-employer balance, making it extremely difficult for small businesses such as franchisees and self-employed subcontractors to have the autonomy to grow their business and create more jobs.

“Small businesses and the people they employ are the heart and soul of communities throughout this nation,” Scalise said. “And House Republicans will continue doing everything in our power to fight the NLRB’s latest attack on behalf of these Americans who deserve the opportunity to earn a living and pursue their dreams without being sabotaged by out-of-touch Washington liberals.”

Scalise has represented Louisiana’s First District in the U.S. House since 2008. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise served for four months in the Louisiana State Senate and 12 years in the Louisiana House. Scalise was educated at Louisiana State University and serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee.
