Jenkins speaks at summit on helping vets return to civilian life

Earlier this week, U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) spoke on Tuesday during the Fort Leavenworth Transition Summit, discussing plans for improving and refining hiring practices for U.S. veterans.

The aim of the summit was to bring together representatives from the military, private industry, government and law enforcement to share ideas on methods to better prepare veterans for careers outside of the military and ensure a smoother transition back to civilian life.

“I am incredibly proud of the strong military traditions we have in Kansas and the value our installations provide to America’s national defense,” Jenkins said. “At the Fort Leavenworth Transition Summit, I was honored to speak about the ongoing legislative efforts in the House to help better prepare future veterans to transition back to civilian life and to help them get good-paying jobs to support their families. This includes the Hire More Heroes Act and the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, which have both recently passed the House of Representatives.”

“There is still more work to be done, and I was pleased with the positive discussion we had at the summit to ensure our veterans who have fought for our freedoms receive the post-military life they have earned and deserve,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins has represented Kansas’ Second District in the U.S. House since 2009. Born in Holton, Kansas, in 1963, Jenkins previously served as Kansas’ state treasurer from 2003 to 2008. Jenkins was educated at Kansas State University and Weber State College. Jenkins serves on the following committees: Financial Services, Ways and Means
