Scalise: House to vote on Steve Gleason Act this week

U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the House Majority Whip, said on Wednesday that the Steve Gleason Act will be up for a House vote this week.

The Steve Gleason Act, named after the former New Orleans Saints football player who was diagnosed with ALS in 2011,  expands opportunities for patients with ALS or other debilitating diseases to receive treatments and cures, as well as seek independence – particularly through the use of speech-aiding devices.

“This is a big step forward for Team Gleason and all those suffering from ALS and other neurological disorders,” Scalise said. “The Steve Gleason Act helps those who can’t speak to still be able to find their voice,”

“This legislation will ensure that people with disabilities have more opportunities when seeking treatments, cures and independence,” Scalise said. “I applaud Senator (David) Vitter (R-LA) for shepherding this legislation through the Senate and Representative (Cathy) McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) in her efforts working with me to bring the Steve Gleason Act up for a vote in the House. We have built a strong team who have been committed to championing this important bill on to victory. I urge my House colleagues to pass this life-changing legislation so that it can quickly be signed into law.”
