U.S. Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) were pleased with last week’s Senate passage of their bipartisan resolution honoring America’s military service members who were injured or fell ill while serving.
The resolution named May 1 as “Silver Star Banner Day,” recognizing the sacrifices of the service members and their families.
“I’m pleased to join Senator McCaskill in working to honor our nation’s active duty servicemen and women, veterans, and military families who make tremendous sacrifices so that our nation will remain free,” Blunt said. “I’m grateful for the work of the Silver Star Families of America, and I’ll continue working with my colleagues to ensure our heroes receive the recognition and gratitude they deserve.”
Silver Star Families of America (SSFoA) is a national non-profit program that provides various types of assistance to veterans suffering from physical or emotional trauma as a result of war. The organization distributes Silver Star Flags and care gift packages to wounded or ill veterans as well as their families.
Blunt and McCaskill remain very active in supporting members of the military and their families, advocating and serving on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, respectively. The pair of Senators have joined to present similar resolutions in each of the past five years.
“Our men and women in uniform—and their families—make enormous sacrifices every day,” McCaskill added. “And Silver Star Service Banner Day is a reminder to honor the heroic work of those ill or injured service members and veterans who have put their lives on the line on behalf of this country in all kinds of ways.”
