Collins, King announce grant to Dexter Regional Airport

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), the chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Sen. Angus King (D-ME) on Monday announced a $300,000 federal grant to the Dexter Regional Airport in Dexter, Maine.

The U.S. Department of Transportation grant will be used to make improvements to the 311-acre facility — specifically, to fund the repaving of the airport’s sole runway.

“Maine’s airports serve as critical links between our communities and help to propel economic development throughout our state,” the Senators said in a joint statement. “This crucial funding will provide Dexter Regional airport with the support they need to continue to operate as efficiently, effectively, and safely as possible.”

Dexter Regional Airport is a public-use airport in Penobscot County, Maine. It has been in operation since March 1948 and is 3 nautical miles east of the central business district in Dexter. The runway at the facility measures 3,009 feet in length and 80 feet in width. The airport serves an average of 19 aircraft per day.
