U.S. Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-PA) shared his concerns about the continued failures by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) following Wednesday’s report on the agency’s investigation into the Philadelphia VA Regional Benefits Office.
“The (VA) Inspector General’s report released today confirmed our worst fears: that the Philadelphia VA Regional Office is rife with systemic mismanagement, deliberate manipulation of data and individuals more focused on misleading the nation than serving our veterans,” Meehan said. “I’m pleased the IG undertook a very serious and thorough investigation, but I’m disappointed with the report’s recommendations. It calls for countless new internal investigations and reviews, and revised internal policies. What the VA needs isn’t an endless loop of bureaucratic reviews and inquiries – it’s competent management that will hold employees accountable and truthfully report its activities to the American public.”
The congressman has made several visits to the Philadelphia facility, including one earlier this month during which he pressed the staff for answers regarding the reported lack of leadership and allegations of abuse.
“I wish I could say I have confidence that the VA’s leadership has taken the necessary steps to address the concerns raised in this report and get our veterans the benefits they deserve,” Meehan added.
