Griffin calls for select committee to investigate Benghazi attacks

Rep. Tim Griffin (R-Ark.) petitioned Republican leaders in the House of Representatives on Wednesday to establish a select committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Griffin also sought congressional authorization of military force to bring those who planned the attack, which killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, to justice.

“It has been over a year since the attack,” Griffin said. “The families and loved ones of the victims deserve justice, the administration must be held accountable and the American people deserve answers. I urge you to adhere to calls from members of Congress and the American people to address these important issues.”

Griffin cosponsored a bill introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) that would establish a select committee that would be comprised of the chairmen and ranking members of the five committees investigating the attack.

Griffin also raised questions about Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey’s testimony that the authorization to use military force does not provide the military authority to track down those responsible for the terrorist attacks.

“…I urge you to consider additional legislation, if necessary, to ensure that congressional authorization is provided for our military to pursue all possible options to bring these terrorists to justice,” Griffin said.
