Issa requests information from tech companies about involvement in fixing healthcare website

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said on Wednesday that he has sent letters to five technology companies requesting information regarding their involvement in fixing problems with Healthcare.gov.

The letters were sent to Verizon Enterprise Inc., Google, Microsoft, Oracle and Expedia.

“Despite the president’s assertion that ‘we’re well into a tech surge,’ neither the White House nor (Department of Health and Human Services) is providing additional details about which private sector companies have been engaged or whether they are being engaged through the appropriate procurement processes,” Issa said in the letter.

The Obama Administration said it has brought in some of the best people from inside and outside the government to fix the issues with the healthcare exchange website. Issa said he is concerned that the administration has not provided details about the problems, revealed who is being enlisted to solve the problems or stated how long it expects the process to take.

“The committee seeks your company’s cooperation in an effort to obtain important information about the problems plaguing Healthcare.gov and efforts to address them that the administration has so far refused to divulge,” Issa said in the letter.

The letter requests all communication between the companies and government agencies since Oct. 1.
