Hudson praises unanimous passage of air travel tax cuts

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) commended the bipartisan support his bill to cut taxes on air travelers received in the U.S. Senate’s on Friday.

Members of the Senate unanimously approved the bill, which would reduce the cost burden on air travelers by limiting fees that were allowed to be charged by air lines.

“In tough economic times, I know that every extra dollar spent on more fees and taxes adds up,” Hudson said. “Rolling back fees and reducing taxes on airline passengers benefits everyone – from helping families save money when traveling for the holidays to cutting costs for small businesses whose employees travel for work.”

Fees and additional taxes have been used to fund security measures that help to protect the aviation system since the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The bill prevents overreach by agencies and airlines, and aims to keep costs low for passengers.

“I’m proud of the bipartisan, bicameral support this legislation received, and I hope the president will join us in our efforts to save American taxpayers from shelling out millions of dollars in extra fees,” Hudson added. “I came to Washington to make life better for folks in North Carolina, and I remain committed to working with leaders on both sides of the aisle to champion real solutions like this.”

The bill now will be sent to President Barrack Obama to be signed.
