McCaul will ‘use every tool’ at his disposal to stop immigration order

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson will testify during a U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security hearing on Dec. 2 called by Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) to review the impact of President Barack Obama’s executive order on immigration.

Johnson will testify on the federal response and preparation for the policy change.

McCaul said he will “use every tool at my disposal” to stop the president’s executive order from being implemented.

“History has proven that unilateral action on immigration simply perpetuates a cycle of illegal entry into this country,” McCaul said. “This was true under the 1986 amnesty and it has been true under (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), which enticed 60,000 unaccompanied children to make the perilous journey across our southern border this summer. We will see a wave of illegal immigration because of the president’s actions, and in no way is the Department of Homeland Security prepared to handle such a surge.

McCaul blasted Obama’s plan for immigration reform.

“The president knows any immigration reforms will be ineffective as long as our border remains insecure,” he said.

In announcing Obama’s executive order to provide amnesty for millions of immigrants living illegally in the United States, the White House listed “cracking down on illegal immigration at the border” as one of three critical elements.
