Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.) had many accomplishments during the 113th Congress, including authoring bills to combat sex trafficking, repealing the medical device tax and serving on the Bipartisan Congressional Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
“I look forward to continuing to tackle important issues for Minnesota and the rest of the country like repealing the burdensome medical device tax, protecting children from the horrific crime of sex trafficking and reforming our broken tax code,” Paulsen said during an interview. “In addition, I’ll work to expand trade opportunities with other countries because an ambitious trade agenda creates jobs here at home.”
Paulsen is a long-time advocate for combating sex trafficking in order to protect at-risk youth.
This year he authored legislation included in the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act, which improves data capturing for law enforcement to identify at-risk youth in an effort to stop exploitation before it starts. He also authored the Safe Harbor bill, which protects sex trafficking victims from being treated as criminals.
Paulsen also joined 275 other representtives in authoring the Protect Medical Innovation Act, which repealed the medical device tax. The 2.3 percent tax resulted in job loss and the prevention of new medical technological advances.
As a member of TTIP, Paulsen said that breaking down regulatory barriers and increasing access to foreign markets is essential to creating jobs in the United States.
