Haslam announces reward for 1991 Franklin murder

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced Friday a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Peggy Beurlien Cox, who was killed Feb. 1, 1991, while working at a Franklin Hardees retaurant.

A widowed mother of three children, Cox, 49, was working with one of her children when a male voice placed an order over the drive-thru intercom at 11:45 p.m. While Cox’s son, Jude, was completing the order, he observed his mother backing away from the drive-thru window, followed by two gunshots, which struck Cox.

Cox was transported to Williamson Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Despite an intensive police search of the area for months after the murder, no evidence was obtained. Interviews also did not yield any suspects.

“We encourage anyone with information in this case to contact local authorities so the person responsible for this crime can be brought to justice,” Haslam said.

The cold case has been reassigned to a criminal investigator from the FBI Violent Crime Task Force working out of the Franklin Police Department.

Anyone with information on the case can contact Chief Deb Faulknewe of the Franklin Police Department by calling 615-794-2513.
