21st Century Cures returns to Washington for roundtable event

After several stops throughout the United States over the last few weeks, 21st Century Cures, a bipartisan initiative introduced by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), returns to Washington for a roundtable discussion at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

“We launched 21st Century Cures earlier this year with the goal of getting improved cures and treatments to patients more quickly and keeping America at the forefront of medical innovation,” Upton and DeGette said in a statement. “We’ve been inspired by the tremendous outpouring of ideas from groups and individuals… . As we move to the next phase of this initiative, we look forward to reviewing these ideas with our blockbuster lineup of accomplished leaders.”

Health care executives scheduled to participate are: Sylvia Burwell, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Dr. Francis Collins, director of National Institutes of Health; Dr. Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; Michael Milken, chairman of The Milken Institute; Dean Kamen, founder of DEKA Research and Development; William Parfet, CEO of MPI Research; and Dr. Dan Theodorescu, director of the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

The meeting will be held in Room 2123 at the Rayburn House Office Building.
