Ribble highlights benefits of dairy margin insurance program

Rep. Reid Ribble (R-Wisc.) is urging Wisconsin dairy producters to learn more about and take advantage of the newly implemented dairy margin insurance program as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2014 Farm Bill.

“As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I worked hard to craft a dairy program that would serve the totality of Wisconsin’s diverse dairy industry,” Ribble said. “The 2014 Farm Bill replaced outdated programs with a gross margin insurance program that will help dairy farmers to manage their risk during difficult times.”

Ribble said that he was pleased the USDA decided to move forward on legislation that will be effective for dairy producers of all sizes.

“I also appreciate the work being done by Wisconsin’s agriculture and dairy leaders to help farmers get up to speed about the margin insurance program,” Ribble said. “I urge all Wisconsin dairy producers to take advantage of the opportunities available to them in the weeks ahead.”

Dairy farmers may sign up for the new program through Friday, Nov. 28. Farmers interested in signing up for the program should visit their local Farm Service Agency office.

The University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension will be holding informational sessions throughout the state. Visit DairyMarkets.org for a full list of sessions.
