Young unveils bipartisan resolution condemning Hamas, demanding release of hostages

U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) introduced a bipartisan resolution on Oct. 17 that condemns Hamas for its brutal terrorist attacks on Israel and demands that the group immediately release all hostages and return them to safety.

“As part of its terrorist attacks on Israel, Hamas took hostage innocent Americans and Israelis, including children and the elderly,” Sen. Young said. “We strongly condemn these barbaric actions and call on Hamas to immediately and unconditionally free all hostages. The world must join together and pressure Hamas terrorists to release these innocent civilians.”

Hamas on Oct. 7 launched a terrorist attack from Gaza into Israel against the Israeli people. The Israeli military on Oct. 16 confirmed that Hamas killed more than 1,400 people in the attack, including 30 Americans. It is estimated that Hamas is holding nearly 200 people hostage in the Gaza Strip, including U.S. citizens.

Sen. Young was the lead original cosponsor of Senate Resolution 408, which was sponsored by U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).

“This bipartisan resolution cements our support for the Israeli people, strongly condemns the atrocities carried out by Hamas, and demands the immediate release of the hundreds of hostages, including Americans, being held by this terrorist organization,” Sen. Rosen said. “The Senate must use its voice to call for the swift release of these innocent people.”

The Senate resolution is under consideration by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
