Tiberi responds to December employment numbers

While the unemployment rate remained steady for December, many American workers are frustrated by the difficulty of finding full-time work, with some quitting the search completely, U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) said on Friday.

“Unfortunately, the administration’s policies are holding back the American economy,” Tiberi said. “I’ve heard from employers in Ohio that over-regulation and stifling laws like Obamacare are causing them to pause their hiring. With increasing signs of instability across the globe, it’s important that the president and Congress work together to strengthen our economy. I remain committed to enacting pro-growth legislation that will allow American employers to expand and create more full-time job opportunities for American workers.”

According to the Friday report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a total of 292,000 non-farm payroll jobs were added to the U.S. economy for the month of December, including approximately 275,000 private sector jobs. The unemployment rate for the month held steady at five percent and the civilian labor force participation rate was 62.6 percent.

Additionally, six million people reported being underemployed or working part-time while seeking to be full time, while the number of long-term unemployed workers as a percent of the jobless was 26.3 percent.
