Several Moore provisions included in House committee-approved NDAA

U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) applauded action last week by the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, which voted 57-2 to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022, which contains several of the congressman’s sponsored provisions.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues to get the NDAA to the House floor so we can provide service members with policies that are worthy of their immense sacrifices,” Rep. Moore said following the committee’s Sept. 2 vote.

If enacted, the NDAA, H.R. 4350, would authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2022 for military activities of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), for military construction and other purposes.

Among the many provisions sponsored by Rep. Moore that were included in the NDAA is one to authorize full funding for the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent to avoid delays to nuclear modernization and to provide Hill Air Force Base the ability to maintain a safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent. Rep. Moore is the sole representative for Hill Air Force Base and Utah’s defense community on the House Armed Services Committee.

“Since my first day in office, we have been working with Hill Air Force Base, military families, and the Utah defense community to ensure that Utah’s priorities are represented in the National Defense Authorization Act,” said Rep. Moore. “Even while in the minority, Republicans succeeded in reversing President Biden’s harmful defense spending cuts, maintaining a competitive edge over China, enhancing depot facility modernization efforts, demanding accountability on Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal, and funding additional procurement to ensure military readiness.”

Other provisions sponsored by Rep. Moore included in the NDAA are those to require an after-action report on the effectiveness of the intelligence provided to national security officials on the withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan; improvements in veteran hiring; improved printed circuit board supply chains; increased allowance at remote worksites; and defense community support authority, according to his office.

“I commend Congressman Moore’s tremendous work and leadership on the Armed Services Committee,” said committee Ranking Member Mike Rogers (R-AL). “His contributions to this year’s NDAA will strengthen our national security, improve the lives of our service members and their families, and ensure accountability from the Biden administration on the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
