Senate passes Young’s bipartisan CTE Month resolution

The Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution cosponsored by U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) recognizing February as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month.

Sen. Young, a co-chair of the Senate CTE Caucus, has advocated for expanding career and technical education as a pathway to workforce readiness and economic opportunity. Some 12 million students are currently enrolled in CTE programs at the secondary and postsecondary levels.

“This resolution recognizes the importance of career and technical education and encourages more educators and students to seek out CTE programs,” Sen. Young said. “Preparing the students of today for the jobs of tomorrow will lead to more opportunities, a stronger economy, and a highly skilled workforce.”

The Senate resolution, S.Res. 617, was approved on Feb. 26 and was sponsored by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), who is also a Senate CTE Caucus co-chair. It highlights the role of CTE in ensuring the United States maintains a competitive and skilled workforce and promotes CTE programs as a respected educational pathway for American students.

The text of the resolution states that 83 percent of U.S. employers recruiting from CTE programs report those programs benefit their bottom line.
