U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) recently applauded action by the U.S. Department of the Interior to disburse record-breaking energy revenue to the Gulf states, with more than $200 million going to his home state of Louisiana.
The March 27 announcement follows the inclusion of language Rep. Scalise secured in the enacted One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which provides a total of almost $461 million in energy revenue to the four Gulf of America energy-producing states — Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas — along with their coastal counties and parishes.
“Louisiana is delivering on President Trump’s commitment to producing more American energy,” Rep. Scalise said. “Now, in just the first year of the [OBBB] becoming law, Louisiana will receive over $200 million in offshore revenue sharing dollars — $47 million more than in previous years — thanks to language I secured in the law to raise the annual revenue-sharing cap from $500 to $650 million.
“Importantly,” he added, “Louisiana dedicates these millions of new dollars from offshore energy exploration and production directly to coastal restoration and hurricane protection efforts, helping to protect the lives and livelihoods of those in southeast Louisiana who work each and everyday to bring this energy to market for the benefit of families and small businesses all across America.”
In July 2025, the president signed into law the OBBB, which required at least 30 lease sales in the Gulf of America over 15 years.
Rep. Scalise secured language in the law that increased the amount of revenue-sharing dollars Louisiana receives each year from offshore drilling from the leases outlined in the law.
The provision in the law specifically will bring hundreds of millions of new dollars to Louisiana for coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects, the congressman said.
