U.S. Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV) on Feb. 24 joined 32 of her colleagues to cosponsor a bipartisan resolution recognizing the 10th anniversary of the first export shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced in the continental United States.
“I am proud to cosponsor this resolution recognizing 10 years of success since the first LNG export from the contiguous 48 states, and honoring the workers and innovators who made this historic achievement possible,” said Rep. Miller, who introduced House Resolution 1076.
The congresswoman introduced the resolution alongside bill sponsor U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) and 32 other cosponsors, including U.S. Reps. Troy Balderson (R-OH), Mike Carey (R-OH), Mike Rulli (R-OH), August Pfluger (R-TX), Buddy Carter (R-GA), Julia Letlow (R-LA), Jake Ellzey (R-TX), Pete Stauber (R-MN), Stephanie Bice (R-OK), Pat Harrigan (R-NC), Julie Fedorchak (R-ND), and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX).
On Feb. 24, 2016, the U.S. shipped its first LNG cargo, a milestone marking a significant step forward for economic growth that helped position the nation as the world’s leading exporter of LNG, according to a summary provided by the lawmakers.
“As co-chair of the Energy Export Caucus, I see the critical role LNG plays in strengthening America’s energy dominance,” Rep. Miller said. “LNG is a cornerstone of U.S. energy exports and supports good-paying jobs, all while bolstering our national security.”
Over the past decade, the U.S. has exported more than 8,500 LNG cargoes to more than 40 countries and regions. The exports have played a critical role in supporting global energy stability, reducing reliance on adversarial energy suppliers, and promoting economic growth and job creation at home, the summary says.
The resolution has been referred to both the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee for consideration.
