Poliquin’s new advisory panel will bring Maine vets’ voices to Washington

U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) has launched a panel of veterans from Maine that he will rely on to learn about issues that affect military vets in his congressional district and to guide policy decisions.

Poliquin, a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said the new Veteran Advisory Panel would serve as a grassroots connection between veterans in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District and federal lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

“I am tremendously proud to continue … efforts to ensure that our veterans’ voices across Maine are heard in Congress,” Poliquin said Tuesday in announcing the panel.

Since he first began serving in Congress, Poliquin said one of his top priorities has to support veterans across his home state.

“I am grateful I was able to join the House Veterans Affairs Committee in Congress earlier this year, where now Maine Veterans have a direct seat at the table in Washington on the issues that are most important to them,” the Congressman said.

The panel includes nine chairpersons who represent each county in the 2nd Congressional District. Each of them will convene individual county panels consisting of two to five members. The overall Veteran Advisory Panel will meet each quarter in different communities around the state.

“Maine’s vast 2nd District — from Fryeburg to Eastport, and from Madawaska to Belfast — is home to tens of thousands of Veterans with issues and concerns that we must work to resolve,” Poliquin said. “This new panel, and the Maine veterans who have offered to participate on it, will serve as a great grassroots tool for veterans of our state to have their voices heard in Congress.”
