Poliquin calls for stronger immigration policies following news of Iranian refugee in Maine joining ISIS

U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) reiterated his call on Tuesday for stronger immigration policies following reports that an Iranian refugee from Maine was killed last year after joining ISIS.

Reports about the Iranian refugee, Adnan Fazeli, demonstrate growing threats from radicalized individuals and groups around the world to the U.S., Poliquin said.

“Still, the president and his liberal allies are ignoring the rightful concerns of millions of Americans and moving forward with a dangerous Middle East immigration and refugee policy,” Poliquin said.

Poliquin added that he has repeatedly voted against a “misguided” refugee resettlement program in Congress that would bring tens of thousands of unknown individuals into the United States without safeguards in place.

“I am committed to ensuring that American families and communities are safe and that our national security is a priority for our federal government,” Poliquin said.

Poliquin voted against the continuation of President Obama’s Syrian refugee resettlement program in November because critical measures had not been put in place to protect Americans.

“Our national security should be a top priority for Congress,” Poliquin said. “With the serious threats that America faces today, it is vital that we push to stop this administration’s dangerous refugee resettlement program until we can ensure, for certain, that exhaustive measures are in place to keep our families and communities safe.”
