Newhouse leads bipartisan resolution to honor families of fallen service members

U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) recently sponsored a bipartisan resolution to honor the sacrifices made by families of U.S. military service members who died serving the nation.

“Our service members and their families have made great sacrifices in service to their country, and it is important that they are not forgotten,” said Rep. Newhouse on Monday. “These families bear an unimaginable burden — enduring the loss of their loved ones who gave their lives in service to our nation — and we have a responsibility to ensure their memory is preserved.”

House Resolution (H.Res.) 1447 would designate Sept. 22-28 as Gold Star Families Remembrance Week.

“By designating September 22-28 as Gold Star Families Remembrance Week, we recognize the extraordinary courage and resilience of our Gold Star Families and reflect on those we have lost,” the congressman said.

Rep. Newhouse sponsored H.Res. 1447 on Sept. 12 alongside 29 original cosponsors, including U.S. Reps. Andy Barr (R-KY), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), David Valadao (R-CA), John Moolenaar (R-MI), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Troy Balderson (R-OH), and Jim Costa (D-CA).

If enacted, the legislation would honor and recognize the sacrifices made by the families of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend freedom and protect the United States, and the families of veterans of the Armed Forces. It also would encourage Americans to observe Gold Star Families Remembrance Week.
