Joyce offers resolution recognizing nurse anesthetists

A bipartisan resolution recently introduced by U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) recognizes National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) Week.

House Resolution 886, sponsored on Jan. 25 by U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), recognizes the contributions of CRNAs and “their critical role in providing quality healthcare for the public, especially during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” according to the congressional record summary. U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) was among the original cosponsors of the legislation.

Since 2000, the last week of January has been designated as National CRNA Week to honor both CRNAs and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists, according to a statement released by the members.

“I’m grateful for all that CRNAs do to ensure the highest levels of patient safety in anesthesia care, especially as we continue to navigate the ongoing pandemic,” said Rep. Joyce, co-chair of the Congressional Nursing Caucus. “I’m proud to co-lead the introduction of this resolution marking National CRNA Week and ask my fellow Buckeyes to join me in celebrating the over 2,200 dedicated CRNAs practicing throughout Ohio.”

The resolution is supported by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and has been referred to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee for consideration.
