Harrigan named co-chair of new domestic defense manufacturing caucus

Rep. Pat Harrigan

U.S. Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-NC) will serve as co-chairman of the newly formed Berry Amendment Caucus, a bipartisan group of lawmakers who aim to boost domestic defense manufacturing and reinforce America’s military supply chains.

“As co-chair of this caucus, I am doubling down on a simple principle: the equipment that defends the United States should be made in the United States,” Rep. Harrigan said in a Feb. 13 statement.

According to the congressman’s office, the caucus launched with double-digit membership and will focus on protecting and modernizing the Berry Amendment, which requires the U.S. Department of Defense to procure certain textiles, clothing, and other mission-critical materials from domestic sources.

The caucus members aim to safeguard U.S. warfighters while strengthening American industry and reducing reliance on foreign supply chains.

“You cannot be the strongest military in the world while depending on foreign supply chains for mission-critical gear,” said Rep. Harrigan. “The Berry Amendment protects our warfighters, protects American manufacturing, and protects our national security.”
