Curbelo, Costello, Dent applaud Trump administration’s support for standing LGBTQ workplace protections

U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), Ryan Costello (R-PA) and Charlie Dent (R-PA) commended the Trump administration’s announcement that it would leave in place a 2014 executive order banning LGBTQ workplace discrimination.

The White House released a statement on Tuesday stating that President Trump pledged to “protect the community from violence and oppression” in his nomination acceptance speech, and that the president “continues to be respectful and supportive of LGBTQ rights.”

Curbelo said he has always believed that Americans in the workplace should be judged by the content of their character and quality of their work and should never be subjected to discrimination based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

“(Tuesday’s) statement from the White House makes it clear the new administration agrees, and this is something all Americans should celebrate,” Curbelo said. “If we are going to bring our country together we must start by celebrating our diversity and respecting the dignity of all people. Today, the new administration has taken a welcome step in that direction.”

Costello said he was pleased to see the administration maintain all LGBTQ workplace protections that the previous administration implemented.

“As I have stated previously, I am opposed to discrimination of any kind and believe we must work together to ensure all Americans are treated equally in the hiring process and in the workplace,” Costello said. “The announcement today is a positive step forward.”

Dent also said he supports and commends the president’s decision to maintain LGBTQ workplace protections.

“All individuals deserve the right to work in environments free of workplace discrimination,” Dent said. “I continue to support and advocate for policies that embrace our nation’s diversity and extend respect for all, and look forward to working with the new administration to strengthen these protections for all employees.”
