Celebrate Community Week resolution introduced by Thompson

A bipartisan resolution offered this week by U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) supports designating Sept. 10-16 as Celebrate Community Week to honor the efforts of local service organizations across America.

Rep. Thompson sponsored House Resolution (H.Res.) 679 alongside six original cosponsors, including U.S. Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA). Rep. Thompson and Rep. Panetta are co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Service Organization Caucus.

“The Celebrate Community Week resolution highlights the critical work of our community service organizations,” Rep. Thompson said. “Volunteer service is the cornerstone of a successful, strong, and healthy community, and is an important staple of American life.”

Lions Clubs International, Rotary International, Kiwanis International, and Optimist International endorsed H.Res. 679, which has been referred to the U.S. House Oversight and Accountability Committee for consideration.

“I commend our community service organizations like Lions Clubs International, Rotary International, Kiwanis International, and Optimist International for everything they do to help our communities flourish,” said Rep. Thompson.

“Local service organizations understand the obligation of living in our country by giving back to our communities,” Rep. Panetta added. “Our bipartisan resolution recognizes the extraordinary work of local service organizations in our hometowns and their humanitarian efforts around our globe.”
