Cassidy introduces bipartisan Improving IRS Customer Service Act

Customer service at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would be enhanced under legislation cosponsored on April 15 by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

The bipartisan Improving IRS Customer Service Act, S. 4302, which is sponsored by U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), would expand information regarding refunds available to taxpayers online and help taxpayers with payment plans if they need it.

“Taxpayers deserve a simple, stress-free experience when dealing with the IRS,” Sen. Cassidy said. “This bill makes the process quicker and easier for taxpayers to get the information they need.”

S. 4302 would establish a dashboard to inform taxpayers of backlogs and wait times, and expand electronic access to information and refunds.

The bill also would improve callback technology and online accounts, and inform individuals facing economic hardship of collection alternatives, according to a bill summary provided by Sen. Cassidy’s staff.

The measure has been referred to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee for consideration.
