Balderson offers resolution supporting importance of U.S.-produced natural gas

U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson (R-OH) on April 23 sponsored a resolution to recognize natural gas produced in the United States as an affordable, green energy source that’s necessary to help the nation become energy independent.

“Unleashing America’s abundant natural gas is essential for us to keep the lights on and reliably power our nation,” said Rep. Balderson, who introduced House Resolution (H.Res.) 1167.

If enacted, the measure would resolve that the U.S. House of Representatives encourages the Biden administration to support U.S. production of natural gas and the related infrastructure, and to identify and remove barriers to its production, according to the text of the resolution.

The resolution also resolves that the House opposes efforts to limit, delay, or ban the approval of new and existing liquified natural gas export facilities in the U.S., and recognizes that the country should be committed to an all-of-the-above approach to meet the nation’s energy needs.

H.Res. 1167 has garnered support from the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and the Consumer Energy Alliance.

“Ohio is home to a remarkable supply of natural gas that lies just below our feet,” said Rep. Balderson. “Tapping into this resource has delivered good-paying jobs to our region, helped shrink Ohio’s carbon footprint, and provided a reliable flow of affordable energy to our electric grid.”

The resolution has been referred for consideration to both the U.S. Energy and Commerce Committee and the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee.
