U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) spoke out this week on against the European Union’s newly released guidelines on labeling goods to indicate they were manufactured in Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.
The European Union Commission has put off issuing the guidelines for three years because of pressure from the U.S. and Israel.
Curbelo questioned the European Union’s labeling guidelines.
“The European Union’s new policy regarding goods produced in Judea and Samaria sends the wrong message at the wrong time,” Curbelo said.
In addition, Curbelo called for broad support of Israel.
“Israel is under assault, and all freedom-loving nations in the world should stand in solidarity with the people of Israel now more than ever,” Curbelo said.
The guidleines require European importers to label agricultural and other products for
sale as being produced in settlements, a move that Israel has said is
discriminatory.
