Curbelo voices support for surface-transportation funding bill

U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) offered his support in a statement late last week for the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015.

“This bill authorizes federal surface transportation programs for six years and improves our nation’s infrastructure system by prioritizing funding and providing more flexibility to states,” Curbelo said. “I am pleased that several of my initiatives that will greatly benefit South Florida were included in this Surface Transportation bill. A bipartisan amendment I offered with U.S. Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) would encourage states to develop roadways with the safety of everyone in mind, including public transportation vehicles and riders, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.”

Curbelo said he was pleased to see high authorization levels for the University Transportation Center (UTC) program as well, which would  receive $72.5 million per year, with incremental increases over the next six years.

“One-hundred twenty-five universities across the country participate in the UTC program, conducting critical research to develop future transportation technologies,” Curbelo said. “Florida International University, in our congressional district, is a world-recognized leader in accelerated bridge construction, and I’m proud to advocate on their and all the UTC’s behalf here in Congress.”
